Most successful bands at the 'areas'
After a surprising list of area winners in 2013, the historical heavyweights of UK banding returned to form in force in 2014 with five of the seven most successful bands in area history winning their respective contests and adding to their already impressive tally of wins.
Reg Vardy awoke from their 2-year 'slumber' to win a record 34th area title, all the more impressive given that they didn't win their first one until 1968! Cory and GUS both won to maintain their respective gaps behind Reg Vardy, with Co-operative Funeralcare nudging clear of Camborne into 4th spot in the all-time table and Brighouse drawing level with Dyke to share a record number of Yorkshire titles.
Elsewhere, Fairey finally won their 14th title after a 13-year wait and Flowers won their ninth area title and completed a West of England hat-trick. Finally, in the London & SC area it was a first-ever title for Wantage Brass A.
The list of bands with at least 10 area titles to their names is now as follows:
34 wins - Reg Vardy
